The last supper

For my last dinner in the states before moving to Paris, Wendy and Dave treated me to Gary Danko in San Francisco for a belated birthday/going away gift. If they were looking for a great present for me, a dinner with the two of them here definitely fit the bill.

We were seated at a little booth perfect for three people and my eyes glazed over when I took a look at the menu. Lobster, quail, bison, duck, scallops, beef, it seemed like they had almost every animal covered. We did a tasting menu of five items. I tried to snap some pictures, but it was a bit dark. I'd have to say my favorites were probably the lamb and lobster.

We also ordered French macarons ice cream sandwiches, but were a bit overzealous and gobbled them up before I had a chance to take a picture. Interestingly enough, our server mentioned that the pastry chef had studied in Paris and did a stage at Pierre Herme. The macarons were excellent.

Some sort of shrimp soup amuse bouche:

Glazed Oysters with Osetra Caviar, Zucchini Pearls and Lettuce Cream:

Soft Shell Crab with White Polenta, Tomatoes, Corn, Basil and Pancetta:

Roast Maine Lobster with Potato Purée, Chanterelle Mushrooms, Corn and Tarragon:

Herb Crusted Loin of Lamb with Tian of Vegetables and Polenta:

Quail Stuffed with Foie Gras, Mushrooms and Quinoa, Fregola and Black Olive-Pine Nut Gremolata:

Trio of Crme Brlée (vanilla, chocolate, and butterscotch) with Assorted Cookies:

I really am going to miss Wendy and my silly brother. Though I'm going to be en route to Paris in less than 12 hours, and embarking on a new journey. A few things will always remain. I love my family. We love, we laugh, and we sure as hell know how to eat.
