Revisiting resolutions

So looking back on 2009, it was such a crazy year! Lots of ups and downs, and definitely lots of changes. My blog is officially a year old, and reflecting on my first post I'm pretty certain that I met most, if not all of my new year resolutions for 2009.

So here was 2009:

1) Lose 10-15lbs (yeah yeah.. i know beauty on the inside and muscle weighs more than fat.. but I can TRY)
* Well I see this is as an ongoing carry-over goal I'm still working on.
2) Run at least 10 miles a week.
* Yes if you include walking!
3) Wear more skirts/dresses (and dress better overall).
* I've purchased 5 dresses in the last 3 months, so I think that has to count for something!
4) Learn to like lamb, or at least tolerate it.
* I heart lamb. I could eat some lamb right now. Like really.
5) Do some things a little less: drink, spend, eat...
* A bit of a hedonistic year.. but I'm happy at least!
6) Do some things a little more: cook/bake, laugh, have fun.
* UM YEAH!

Off and running again!

So I began this year with a list of New Year resolutions. One of them was to log at least ten miles a week on my Nike+ Sport Band watch. I'm happy to report that I've maintained my resolution for the most part.

Being in Paris has in a way upped the ante on the walking. I'm logging in 16-18 miles a week so far. However, it's all just been a whole lot of walking. Back in the Bay Area, I'd get my ten miles in by running the Stevens Creek trail every other day.

This morning, I got up and decided to go for a run in the Luxembourg gardens. When I was in Paris a few years ago, I could have sworn I never saw anyone running in the gardens. Now the dirt trail around the garden is flooded with Parisians. The funny thing is that they don't really seem to be running. More like a casual jog, which makes my labored canter look somewhat normal.

People watching while running here is a lot more interesting than back home. From the lady who could really use another sports bra (or two or three) to waif like girls who look like they can barely hold themselves up and are desperately searching for some fried chicken to women in full makeup and regalia casually jogging as if afraid of looking 'gauche'. And that's only the women. I have to say the Stevens Creek trail has nothing on the Luxembourg gardens. Jogging in the shade of grand oak trees, surrounded by purple and yellow pansies and dahlias, listening to the gurgling fountains, and seeing Saint Sulpice church looming in the distance, it's pretty easy to forget the trail back home.

The only problem with the gardens is that it's a mile walk from my apartment. I actually contemplated jogging in the Montparnasse cemetery, but I don't know if that's really socially acceptable.

Resolution update

So an update on my resolutions:

1) Lose 10-15lbs: Well.. um, okay its not going so well, but I like to think that its because I'm getting more toned and muscle weighs more than fat?
2) Run at least 10 miles a week: Yes! Actually since mid September I've run over 200 miles so.. that averages to about 10 a week. Nothing compared to triathletes/marathon runners, but its a big step for someone who used to be super asthmatic with always a couple inhalers on hand!
3) Wear more skirts/dresses (and dress better overall): Getting there. Have worn some skirts.
4) Learn to like lamb, or at least tolerate it: I'm on a lamb regimen of consciously trying to eat lamb every 2 weeks or every other week. Outlook is good.
5) Do some things a little less: drink, spend, eat: Making progress.
6) Do some things a little more: cook/bake, laugh, have fun: I think the girls are helping me a lot with this one. :)

A new year...

2008 was hard. Really hard. And not in a good way either. There were a lot of good moments.. and even more bad moments. I'm glad it finally ended.

Alas its a new year.. a time for new beginnings and a new blog. I'm not sure what the new year will bring. Hopefully some new adventures, few culinary mishaps, and exciting times. I'm optimistic.

Maybe too optimistic.. I've got a whole lot of New Year resolutions:

1) Lose 10-15lbs (yeah yeah.. i know beauty on the inside and muscle weighs more than fat.. but I can TRY)
2) Run at least 10 miles a week.
3) Wear more skirts/dresses (and dress better overall).
4) Learn to like lamb, or at least tolerate it.
5) Do some things a little less: drink, spend, eat...
6) Do some things a little more: cook/bake, laugh, have fun.

Here are a few last happy moments of 2008....
