Chino left yesterday. No worries, I haven't been bored. More so just needing to decompress. The last week has been spent running around making sure she experienced as much of Paris as possible.
For the most part I've just been indulging in the things I like most. Food, shopping, reading, and relaxing. Last night I met up with Nina, a friend of Joan's, for dinner at a place called Chartier. It has an old Paris feeling about it. Its been open since 1896, yet still retains a lot of charm as well as a simplistic and very affordable French menu. Nina and I both had lamb chops with fries.
Here is Nina with our server, Mr. 39.
Today I went and visit Saint-Sulpice church. The exterior was undergoing restoration, but I went inside and had a walk around. Its a lot gloomier looking than Notre Dame or Saint-Chappelle.
It was actually quite a warm day. Spring is here in Paris and the Parisians can be found en masse at the parks. Makes me wonder why they're not all working if they're busing lounging in chairs at Jardin du Luxembourg today.
I settled down for a few hours with book four of the Twilight series.
Maybe a lot of them were in the park today because France was having a 'greve' or strike. I think the French (since many people are in unions) go on strike to exercise that they have the ability to disagree with any sort of reform or change the government attempts to instill. There were tons of people in the street, mind you this was the afternoon and most of the activities started in the morning. There were even police vans aplenty at bay in the event of some disturbance.
And so what about the food? The food is one of the main reasons why I love Paris and France in general. You'll find foods that you can't find back home. This morning I had some amazing French sheep's milk yogurt called Caille. Its not tangy and is slightly sweet flavored with vanilla. It tastes, as most French cuisine does, as if it is horrific for your waist line. Oh well, my pedometer has registered 60 miles since I've been in Paris, and it doesn't work 20% of the time! I also picked up some blood orange juice at the store. The color is a bit unsettling, but it tasted like a grapefruit/orange juice hybrid.
For lunch I stopped by Churrasqueira Galo and had some amazing roast chicken, fries, rice, salad, and a coke for only 9 euros!
For dinner, I just couldn't help myself and sauntered over to L'as du Fallafel again. I really need to get my point across if I haven't yet... this place is awesome. I generally have ADD when it comes to food, so it's pretty significant if I will dine at a place three times in less than two weeks. I snapped more pics of the establishment this time.
And of course saving the best for last, here are some tasty desserts I picked up today from Pierre Herme and Jacques Genin, a chocolatier who provides chocolate for famous Paris establishments such as Georges V hotel, Alain Ducasse's restaurants, etc. I had to wait for the counter lady to help me, and in return she gave me a free chocolate for my patience! And people say the French are rude.
